the Airbus (and all large aircraft) must demonstrate an ability to remain afloat for a specified time in order to be certified. so, yes engineers take ditching into account already.

pure bullsh*t. they are were separated by several thousand feet, as is customary. The media portrays everything dramatically, and improperly. Its a shame. they could instead highlight the incredible job that NYC air traffic controllers did with an emergency aircraft rather than let a reporter with no expertise take a guess at interpreting "passeur airport monitor" incorrectly.

He's a really good pilot and thank God they all safe.

Those simulators make it look easy, but there were so many factors that could have made it a disaster. There is no doubt that God has a hand in everything, but I really believe that it was the incredible skill of that pilot that brought them down safely. I am sure God is saying "well done Sully."

Couldn't agree more. Stop giving God the props on this one, it was the pilots and ONLY the pilots. Not some divine intervention. God must be an attention seeking 4 year old if he let the birds crash into the engines just so he could show his divinity!

why can't they all manufacture all planes so that they could land in water? would it be so hard to implement?

Also at :52, he totally ignores the fact that the other plane they came "perilously" close to was likely thousands of feet above them and that this tracking website doesn't show that.

I'm not a fan of the last comment from the guy on this newscast. "Thanks to his skill, many lives on the plane and possibly on the ground were saved" (2:17 onward).

Where has this guy been? *All* the lives were saved. Give him full credit!
