Motorcycle Crash Lane Splitting

I don't know why people voted you down but you're right. i guess the truth hurts and people don't like logic. You when you got heavy traffic like that you are going to get people changing lanes left and right to get out of it. Lane splitting in traffic like that and going faster then you can react is not a smart idea IMHO. As a motorcycle rider you should remove the idea that you have the right of way. Even if you do have the right of way you don't want to end up "dead" right

It's not illegal in California to lane split. In fact California is the only state in the US that you can safely do it and not get a ticket 90% of the time. Of course if you go as fast as this guy did you'll probably get pulled over by the CHP ( California Highway Patrol ) if they see you and be given a ticket for speeding, reckless driving, etc.. Next time this guy should just slow the F**k down. No need to be early to your pending accident that fast kids.

I suspect a growing number of car drivers penalized after fast moving motorcycles appear unexpectedly between lanes is going to put a quick end to lane splitting in California.

Before that happens, California might be wise to adopt provisions similar to many European countries allowing lane splitting - illegal to go more then 20kph (12mph) faster then surrounding vehicles while doing so.

Riders in those countries are rarely ticketed, but are considered at fault in any accident.

just some piece of advice, don't go that fast next time. Oh, where i live lane splitting is normal, but i never go that fast, you always have to predict stupid behaviour from the car drivers, they rarely look into the mirrors.

Lane splitting is perfectly fine. But going more than 5-10mph faster than the cars can be dangerous - it removes your option of reacting fast when some sleepyhead decides to change lanes without looking.

Hope you came out of it alright and is back on the (or some other) bike!

oooh ya :O owie. That damn carpool lane can be deceptive... you think that nobody will change lanes, but if they do, they are usually trying to be quick about it and not expecting anybody there. Must have been nice to have your boys with you. I wish I could hear the audio better. How'd it work out since it looks like you were going faster than the legal, what is it... 5mph(?), faster than traffic?

It took til 1:27 before all the "tweedy birds" stopped flying around the riders helmet...Glad he is OK.

Lane splitting (riding between two seperate lanes) in only legal in California.
