ihart, yes I'm serious. There are so many research papers out there with various cases of dolphin aggression including attacking sick pod members, R**e , infanticide, attacks on humans etc.

clastic, there is actually a lot of evidence for forceful sex among dolphins. There are a number of books and papers that reference this. Just don't expect to read about it in a childrens book or see it on 'Flipper'.
Also, the 'kidnapping' of females as briefly seen in this video also goes hand in hand with 'dolphin R**e '. It's pretty nasty stuff.

That was certainly not presented here, though i am familiar with the phenomenon. I object to a possible spin on a situation where little sure information is available.

clasticone, I would hardly say Bottlenose dolphins killing a Porpoise or infant Bottlenose dolphin which results in brain bleeds, punctured lungs, shattered bones, deep bite marks and blubber ripped from the bone is anything but violent behavior. Why is it so hard for people to believe dolphins can be nasty and aggressive?

Dudes, I only saw a few violent behaviors and most could easily have been simple roughhousing. Humans do that too. And dolphins have drastically different courtship behaviors from humans, including tooth raking. Its not necessarily hostility. You can't apply the first thing that comes to mind to this situation because its a DIFFERENT SPECIES!!

dolfanatic is right. Infanticide is commonplace among dolphins. I have known a group of Dusky dolphins seperate a mother Hectors dolphin calf from its mother while several Duskies bullied the mother by tailslapping it over the face while the others drowned and killed the calf. It's nature. And dolphins are no exception to nasty behavior.

This is actually common with "swimming with the dolphins" males, females it dont matter.

they have multiple mates because the male dolphins will kill a calf that isn't his. So by having multiple mates nobody knows exactly who the father is.

I think they have boners to show how masculine they are. I guess it's a "mine's bigger than yours" thing.
