    It's funny to read the endless soprano discussions on youtube. Why even bother to debate who the better singer is. Just listen to the one YOU like the most and enjoy that. That's what I do. I prefer Gheorghiu as Tosca rather than Callas, but I blame the rather poor sounding recordings I own, rather than voice. Both do/did however have great dramatic skill which I utterly enjoy. :-)

    I purchased this film recently (Tosca, 2001; release 2002). As a film I enjoyed it very much and the wonderful voice of Gheorghiu I can never get enough of. However, it is really only a film with the true singers' voices dubbed afterwards and for this reason I find the performances of the characters insincere or phony (if one studies their mouths, the lip synching is quite obvious).
    I would have preferred Gheorghiu singing this role onstage, but this is better than nothing.
