Entry into the New Scientist 'Green eggs and cabbage' experiment competition. Using 50kg of cornflour, we managed to make a fluid that is both liquid, and solid, depending on how you treat it.

    Half of it is still in my back garden - I'm taking it down the council dump this weekend! Once you decant off some water, it solidifies a lot more, and I figured we didn't need a non-newtonian sewer in our street!

    This experiment was performed by John Tickle for the TV show 'Brianiac', in which he filled a swimming pool with 'custard' and walked across in the manner of the messiah. What wasn't shown was how they emptied the swimming pool afterwards - very slowly I would imagine.
