Pete's politics were a little dangerous back in the 40's....Which no doubt influenced his music..which mellowed aged or outdated into enviromental issues..that of course typical of folk musicians..some might say he was COMMUNIST.

I was a grad student in Europe in the mid 60's..I learned this song both from PP & M, also Trini Lopez..played it all over Europe. Never thought of it as an Anti War song though..Although many of my college classmates getting killed in Nam at the time.
