By mohamedmtv [Affiliate User] 1208232902 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveA bigger blast meens a bad torpedo.
The power should be as mucht under the target as possible, creating a shockwave upwards to break it into peaces...
That boat sucked, had no bulk and it was a friget.friget

By TessekGarner [Affiliate User] 1206821992 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveOn the History Channel last night was a program called "Sinking a Destroyer". You'd like it, I'm sure. They showed some footage of a mark 48 torpedo test among other things. The program was actually about a joint live-fire exercise with Canadian and Aussie forces trying to sink a decommissioned Aussie Destroyer. It was a sort of competition between destroyers, aircraft and submarines to see what effect different munitions had on the ship. It was ironic how the death blow was dealt.
By alfazedz [Affiliate User] 1206193019 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIndeed it is.
Try to imagine what happened to ammunition laden freighters in ww2. The detonation of the torpedoes was not even their concern.
The secondary explosions starting a second later were.
Ive seen photos... these ships literary rained from the sky, in hundreds of pieces. No chance for the crew.
I bet the merchant sailors of ships carrying ammunitions earned more than any others during ww2.
OMG--that's what sailor's nightmares are made of. Ain't no sending a repair crew to fix those holes. Over the top frightening.

It was the idea to observe this torpedo test ;) And no, modern ship radars may be capable of that but its rather unlikely and only works at very short distances and good weather conditions. Airplane or helicopter radars have a much higher capability for detecting periscope signatures. They are the real threat.
By Celeon999A [Affiliate User] 1199670866 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removedont subs usually not look through the periscope at ships, becasue the ships can see the scope on radar?
