How to Solve a Rubik's Cube Tutorial - Step 1 - White Cross

So you already finished the two bottom layers, and your top was complete, right? Make sure that all your corners are correct. Even if you have one completed side, that does not mean you're ready for step 7. Your top corners must all be in correct positions.

i got to the 7th step and couldnt finish because my cube looked different

The trickiest part is getting the 4 white edge pieces around the yellow center piece. If you can get at least 3 that's good. The last one is the trickiest because you don't want to mess up the first 3. Can you get at least 3 white edge pieces?

Once you have all 4 white edges around the yellow center, you match each of them individually with their center and then flip it 180. Once you have the white cross on the bottom, your cross will be identical to mine. You do not have to have the same pieces next to the cross or elsewhere.

every time i get the white edges and try to match them up with thier corrosponding colors not all of them macth does my cube have to look EXACTLY like yours??? please right back

i think my cube is very old. the colour centres are different to yours :S

Yes that's correct, it does NOT matter how you scramble it at all, otherwise there would be no point to the rubik's cube at all. There are over 43 quintillion (4.3 x 10^19) possible combinations ('situations' as you call them) of the rubik's cube. However, when you use a method and algorithms, you are able produce certain "situations". The algorithms, therefore, allow you to get from one situation to the next. So you can sort of make order out of chaos and group things together to solve it.

hey, i just realised that its not really the way u scramble it... you have to see the situation and do the proper method needed if u encounter a particular situation on the cube....

Sakihas, WTF? u scrambled it differently the way he scrambled it? U mean we have to scramble it the way RobH0629 does inorder to solve it?

This tutorial is so much easier to follow than other ones on youtube. You teach it slowly and explain things so that even beginners like me can understand. Once you get all 4 white edge pieces up next to the yellow cross, you MUST match them up INDIVIDUALLY, one at a time. I am guessing that you probably had the blue and orange already matched, so you just flipped them and then just flipped the other two. You must make sure they are matched with their SIDE COLOR BEFORE flipping it upside down. Check out the video again and then make sure you do each step as I do.

Yes, whatever you're most comfortable with. But you may find it a little hard to follow the rest of my tutorial if you do that. If you did want to do that, you'd have to make the red your bottom and the orange your top. Any time I talk about white, you must think of RED..and any time I talk about yellow, you must think about ORANGE.

near the end i got the cross and white blue matched with the cente.r...white orange matched witrh center...but i dont know how to get white green and white red with the center

could you start off with a red cross?

thanks to your tutorial, I was able (took me 3-4 hours) to memorize all the steps before solving my first cube.... ever. Fantastic experience, everyone was into it, when I was in school and you not even born. (Some irony to it, ain't it...)
I find your way of explaining the algorithms exceptional. Really good for beginners like me.
