Overtone Singing Tutorial

No, whistling and overtones are two different things. Overtones are notes that are comprised within a fundamental note. By the way, your front teeth should not effect your ability to produce overtones. You can have no teeth and still do it.

You mention that the overtones register as whistle harmonics. I think this is because overtone singing is simply a fancy way of whistling. For example if you start to whistle and then make a sound with your vocal chords, it will produce a similar effect to what you hear with overtone singing. Please correct me if you think I have the wrong idea about all this.

Thanks a lot for this. I have a question though, my upper front teeth on the outside of my very front teeth (before canines) are symmetrically rotated slightly outwards. Do you think this will effect my ability to produce an overtone?

i can't get that high whistle sound

I'm actually a vocalist and my teacher flipped out when i showed her!

I'm study music and not a vocalist either. Well, I sort of am now, but I started doing it when I was just a tuba player. You can have the worst voice ever and still do it.

so I'm not a vocalist. I am studying music in college though so I unserstand whats going on here. however, will not being a vocalist make overtone singing that much harder for me? i'm not saying i'm tone deaf (i can sing a tune) but I'm no vocalist so will i have a harder time?
