Off the cd "Ancestry In Progress"
For those that don't know Zap Mama if from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Talib Kweli had also featured on one of her songs. "World music" is an orientalist term that staes that all music produced outside the "Western world" is an other, lesser and assimilated genre. It's ignorant. If you can differentiate between music made in the Mid-West and the South then you can understand that there are regional genres within and between cultures and countries.

How did you come across this then, like/play/sing this type of music? I came across this one through looking at Erykah Badu's sites and I got into Badu through listening to Jazz such as the trumpeter Roy Hargrove, I love his RH Factor album (Badu's on this too).
My response was not meant to be offensive. Sorry if you misunderstood.
Peace & Blessings.
Woops, when I said 'wierd' I wasn't referring to this song, it was a (response to a response to a response of a!!!) lyric I thought sounded 'funny', plus I'm not too educated __ don't know how to word things right! However, I respect mine and everybody's taste in music when they show a love of music that is 'Badu-ish' hehe :)
By DawnJake [Affiliate User] 1196257361Cheers, (sorry for being sounding like as uneducated ass), I've heard the dictionary explanation of metaphor (ages ago and forgot what it means HA!) but could you explain it to me (if ye can be assed!!hehe) think you would explain it well to me cheers again, Dawn :>

By jetbland77 [Affiliate User] 1196246894its not a "biccy", its a "mickey," that's when someone slips a drug in your drink at the club. It's a metaphor for being tricked.
Badu's lyrics are best understood metaphorically.
i love this song and its' really not weird..its from another nation. plus this they consider this to be "World" music...
By kyarbro123 [Affiliate User] 1196180606'Certaintly not me' is where that wierd lyric was I mentioned before. Another cool thing is Badu's rhythm at 1 minute 44 (HHHAA! sorry to be anal or can't explain it as 'well') she has that Prince type of musical expression where the voice becomes like a type of instrument and she's so relaxed (e.g. sounded a bit like a snare giving it another sub rhythm)

By arasharfa [Affiliate User] 1195975797i agree:)
By msbadu2003 [Affiliate User] 1195761073What ever you want it to mean that's what makes them such mind appetising artists e.g. in one of Badu's lyrics (not this song) she says what sounds like 'turned around then ya slipped me a biccy' HA! some may think literally it could be a rich tea or jaffa (haha) or a kiss, or weed or a bit of mental wisdom. And I'm sure they are aware of their abstractness, they are both far from shallow, uninteresting artists.

By AnastasijaKobrinska [Affiliate User] 1195393998don't think there's a right answer but this is what i think: smoking, meditating, dancing, doing you, whatever makes you happy, etc.
