Do you think the emergent church has some hip, cool, new way of thinking? The mentality of "Well, we need to change Christianity..." and "The Bible doesn't need to be the center of everything..." has been around much longer than these "cool, new, hip guru's" would like for you to believe. The root of the problem is called "humanism", and this short video by Francis Schaeffer exposes this way of thinking for the departure from Christian faith that it really is. Notice the similarities between ...

• One thing to ...

One thing to understand, too, is that the Bible is not all literal. There is a "spirit" behind the understanding of it. Like, it doesn't specifically describe the trinity in the Bible by saying "trinity," but it does say Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, all being God: Trinity.
Also, we can't lean on our own interpretation, we must get our teachings from an authority with the Holy Spirit. "Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you

• The "Pope" is the " ...

The "Pope" is the "Bishop" of Rome, which is in the Bible. Check it out.
"This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work." 1 Timothy 3:1
AND, the "Pope's" office comes directly from peter, the "rock" or "Kepha", Aramaic meaning of rock. Or where Jesus says "And I tell you that you are Peter(Kepha) and on this rock(Kepha) I will build my church, and the gates of Hell will not overcome it." Matt 16:18
So, where's "Sola Scriptura?"
And who gave us the Bible?

Where in the Bible does it say, "Pope"?

If you can't prove that it does say that specific word anywhere, please explain how double standards help your arguments.

• And for 2000 years, ...

And for 2000 years, the original Church is the same. Whatever teaching is against the Bible that comes from original Church leaders is heresy and should be seen as such. But, just as Jesus gave authority to Peter to carry on His CHURCH, not BIBLE, the Church gives authority, through Christ's teaching, on the Bible. Jesus did not say "write a book", but he DID say he was building his Church for us to carry it on. No where in the Bible does is say "Scripture Alone."

"In the early church, the authority rest on the Bible alone."

In the early church, there was no "Bible" as we see it today. The complete Bible as we know it came about by St. Jerome in Latin at around 400 AD. Before that, what was the authority? THE CHURCH

I listened with interest. The early Christians wrote the NT, so NT scripture emerged from the Christian Fellowship. The same is true for the Hebrew scriptures, ie they emerged from a Jewish community, and reflect those values. Experiencing, ( eg Abraham, the Apostle Paul) always proceeds writing,( OT and NT). The Bible was inspired, but not dictated, and can not be the final authority, because it reflects the contradictions of the societies from which the Bible documents came. John T

• Schaeffer took a ...

Schaeffer took a lot of license in presenting a particularly reformed view of church history, making sweeping sometimes naive generalizations. But I think he has a good deal of value and original insight. His trilogy is a brilliant overview of western civilization, it's pressures, and the resulting philosophies that have come about to deal with them, and ultimately a convincing biblical answer to it all. He can get things very wrong sometimes but he nails it enough times to be taken seriously.

...is coming to the world for rejecting the Son's offer to reconcile the world and the Emergent churches existance makes me look hourly for Jesus to return. Read those letters to the churches in Rev 2 an 3, I think they are more relevant than ever before. BTW, the bible is still truth and always will be.

I think the Brian Mclaren's of the world that think that the cross in not valuable and that all religons have something to bring to the table of the Lord are a short hop, jump and skip away from becoming one with the rest of the world. Then I think we will see the Revelation 17 whore that follows after "Christ" and takes the brunt of the well deserved wrath poured out as the bible says is coming to a Christ rejecting world. For all the Emergent's worthless attempts to alientate truth, hell...
