Khartoum and the Darfur rebel group Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) are close to reaching a peace deal at the Qatar-hosted negotiations.

Khalil Ibrahim, JEM leader, held face-to-face talks with the Sudanese government, the first since 2007 amid ongoing fighting.

Al Jazeera's Omar al-Saleh reports.

    We will never make progress while we waste our resources on war and destruction. I pray the Darfur rebels and the GoS sign a just peace agreement...and allow the reconstruction of Sudan to start.

    i hope the peaces talk in doha bring peaces to whole ppl in darfur and rest of of suden.their are those gov who are outside the country that want to distables suden by divieding the ppl of the counrty to arabs and blacks
