only the 5 best cards count.
it doesnt matter what you can build with 6 cards.
only 5 cards are your hand.
and both of them had JJJJ.
Gus had A in the back. the woman only an 8.
    JJJJA wins over JJJJ8.

  • My final point will ...

My final point will be to give you an advantage of playing the hand in the dark, since you seem to think there is none, here. First, since there is a high probability that Erica is getting the right odds to call, she doesn't want to look down and see a 2-4, and be tempted to muck. Against an A-3, a 2-4 is less than a 3 to one dog, so mucking it would be the incorrect play, mathematically.

  • Anyway, I'm not ...

Anyway, I'm not saying my math is all correct. All I know is that the vast majority of possible matchups are either 1) Better than 3 to 1 odds or 2) worse than 3 to 1 odds, but still a hand Erica should call (AA vs JJ, for example) Which makes looking at her cards irrelevant since she has to call any hand, anyway. Especially when she knows Gus is in the big blind next, and could be pushing with just about anything.

  • So that is a 6.5 ...

So that is a 6.5 percent chance that she is making a bad call. (If you consider every pocket pair, and every ace a good call).

  • Gus's raise was ...

Gus's raise was barely more than a minimum raise. The blinds were 1K-2K and he raised it to 4550. So, Erica was getting 3-1 pot odds. The only time you are worse than a 3-1 underdog is when you have a smaller pocket pair than the other player or one same card with smaller kicker. But, do you think she is going to fold 2-2 or A-little if she looks first? Of course not. Therefore, the only hand she has to worry about is matching his low card. In this case, the three. 11 hands out of 169 possible.

  • No, noob. Calling ...

No, noob. Calling in the dark is never the right play, unless you can use not knowing your cards to your advantage. Which you cannot do when the other player is all in. There is nothing strategic about calling in the dark. She could have saved herself 2500 in chips. Stop defending her just because she's a cute poker player.
