Yes the scientific name is zoisite and not all tanzanite that comes out of the ground is brown. Tanzanite before completing the heating process it trichroic - burgundy, blue and violet. Tanzanite is heated to finish the process whereby enhancing the blue/violet in the gem. I have seen natural unheated tanzanite that is already a enhanced blue but admittedly it is not very common. Most precious and semi precious gemstones go through some sort of heating process.

All tanzanites are not natural in color. It is actually called zoisite and ugly brown stone treated to make them look purplish blue named tantazite. Only untreated gems will go up in value.
