details of the SSG circuit I'm using i forgot to mention that i usually have an earth connection at the negative terminal of the run battery. John Bedini's diagrams of the circuit normally show the negative going via the earth... my latest mutation has an earth connection on the -ve line, and an inductor between the earth and the -ve of the battery. the earth connection is via a diode which only allows -ve charge to flow up into the circuit. ...

  • would might mean i ...

would might mean i should still insulate them?
i've actually seen sparks jumping in and out of the wires before when i had them hooked up to a lighter sparker (it was for a science fair thing and i used the coated wire i had left over) the electricity jumped through the coating several times between the wires. i thought the coating was for heat resistance?

  • you might get away ...

you might get away with the joins if they're not touching eachother. the rest of the wire is coated so it shouldn't really matter if it touches one of the soldered bits.. if the trigger winding and power winding both have joins which are touching it'll probably screw the whole thing i guess... you could try with less resistance on the trigger circuit... maybe the variable resistor has burned out the sweet spot, i did that a few times, check with a meter that it works properly all the way round..

  • well...i got that ...

well...i got that to work one time and then it stopped..thought i fried the transistor and i did the first time...so i got a new one. i double checked to make sure evrything wasn't fried but i think the problem is that my wires aren't insulated...atleast at the breaking points so i still have to do that. but if the wires arent insulated would that alone make the motor not work if everything else did? thnaks again for the help!

  • it does charge up ...

it does charge up batteries, i'll give it that much... still can't say for sure that it fixes old dead batteries (but only because i stopped running the test, not because i know for sure that it can't), and i can't say exactly how efficient it is at charging, but i've started running it again and will hopefully figure that out at some point...

  • does the coil hum ...

does the coil hum at any time even though the rotor isn't spinning? if the circuit is switching properly you should be able to hear it even when the resistance is wrong and the rotor won't spin...
soldered joins in the coil should be ok, as long as they haven't broken, and are insulated and so not shorting out the coil at some point.
does the resistance between the collector and emitter of the transistor change when the base is activated? maybe you fried the transistor at some point.

  • The other fellow ...

The other fellow said a no start would be reversed polarity. Flip the wires around? Just quoting him here though.

  • Pretty impressive ...

Pretty impressive work sir. A fine job of assembling the pieces. I just wish I knew what the heck this gizmo was supposed to be doing.^) For what it's worth, your presentation is quite low-key and I found it enjoyable... but the guy with the anxiety attack was hilarious, as was your response to the apparent drunk.^)) I haven't laughed outright like that for a while.
Okay, on a serious note, you are obviously a serious hobbyist, so what do you make of this circuit? Useful or no?

  • how exactly do you ...

how exactly do you make the coil pulse? i have the circuit hooked up the correct way according to introvertebrate's vid. looks like yours too. i know the circuit works cause i got shocked when i was hooking up the coil to the circuit and i accidentally had the leads hooked in. when i spun it though, it didn't work. is this a timing problem with the pulse? also is it ok if the coil has a few soldered wires in it if the wire broke? thanks sooo much for the help! :)

"How long yet?" what does that sentence actually mean? what are you trying to say? you make no sense. what is bullshit?
