yea,it was released....then my dad made a documentary on it....he saw a monkey...drinking water from the river....and then suddenly the arapaima we caught jumped 5 feet in da air n caught it by its head...

Was the fish released, becasue it's at a spawning age

I've heard the LC Shimano reel spindle can bend if you're reeling in against a big fish. Apparently some of the guys fishing on the river Ebro have experienced this problem. It's all very complicated when trying to decide what new tackle to buy! Lol

Thanks for taking the time to reply Keith. I've also been looking at the E.T. Big Game Brute, 4-10oz, 10ft 3pce, 30-40lb mono line, 80-100lb braid line. I'll be going on a late honeymoon to somewhere tropical and want a rod that will cast 4oz poppers from the beach, yet have enough backbone to stop very big fish. I'll want it to do some bait fishing at night as well. Judging by the problems you had maybe that Fox rod is more suited to multipliers than fixed spools. Any problems with the LC reel?

Yes the Fox Silure is a two piece. The rod did have a tendency catch the line around the first ring. I've just come back from another trip and used a Free Spirit Cat Tamer rod instead. The above problem did not occur on this model. For a powerful rod the Free Spirit rod also has enough spring to assist with the cast.

Yes Fox Silure rod. All terminal tackle was supplied by the resort but from memory, tuna steak bait, ~2/0 Gold Label barbless hook, Kryston ton up hooklink attached to 3oz method feeder. The method feeder is there to help prevent deep hooking as, in spite of their size, arapaimas are quite delicate fish.

What rod are you using? I don't suppose it's an 8ft Fox Silure rod? What end tackle, bait, hook, weight, hook length. Sorry for the geeky questions. That's a great catch!!!
