Europe has rushed to help Greece in its fight against fires devastating its southern regions.
The EU has a Community mechanism in place to facilitate reinforced cooperation in civil protection assistance. Monitoring and Information Centre (MIC) coordinated the offers of many member states and in total 18 fire-fighting planes, 18 specialised helicopters and nearly 100 fire-fighters had been sent to Greece.

No. The Turkish aid never cross Greece. Before cross the borders they call them back (Nobody knows why).Later the Turkish TV (goverrment) said that the Greeks didnt accept their help. Xaxaxaxa always the same story. But the Turkish mission get ungry with Turkish goverment as they said.

The EU was not the quickest in responding...but this is a learning experience. I would hope that Greece will help another country in their time of need so that no one will have to go through that. To turn on the tv here in America and see one of my countries burning, and see people dying is beyond the scope of my imagination. As a supporter of the EU, to see any European die over something like this simply unacceptable.

By Donottalktome [Affiliate User] 1191117922 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe EU should have one military power. That's the only way the EU can be efficient enough in case of emergency and other threats. It doesn't make any sense that every country in the EU has it's own small army with no influence. Furthermore it would be much cheaper to have a common army.

Not every country in Europe has a coastline, and may not have many/any? firefighting planes or helicopters.
I don't know, but what I do know is that people really wanted to help so any shortcomings in assistance wasn't due to lack of support from the European public.
But Finland is part of EU, right?
So whether you're part of NATO or not, who cares?!
I mean, Norway isn't part of the EU, but they accepted our help.
Not sure how much we could contribute with, as we're a small country - population wise, but then again, so is Finland...
What are you talking about, 'not many people care about Greece'?
What utter crap.
All Europeans, and everyone that were informed about these fires, cared about Greece and were horrified thinking about the devastation.
Not just the awful fires; but the deaths, the destruction of nature, and the financial ruin of so many people that will have a hard time trying to rebuild their lives.
Of course we care!
