This is the second of three parts.
Brant Lyon writes poetry, prose, and music. His poems and short stories have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, including Red Wheel Barrow, Poets of the Palisades, Ganymede, Big City Lit, and The Long Islander. He has performed his musical compositions at Galapagos Art Space, Nuyorican Poets Café, Bowery Poetry Club, Cornelia Street Café, Carnegie Hall, and festivals in Virginia, New Mexico, and New York. He produces the "poemusic" reading series, Hydrogen Jukebox in NYC, and co-edits for Uphook Press. His latest publications include a collection of poetry You Are White Inside (Three Rooms Press 2011) and two collaborative "poemusic" CDs, Brant Lyon & Friends: Beauty Keeps Laying Its Sharp Knife Against Me (LOGOchrysalis, 2008) and Brain Ampin': Hydrogen Jukebox with The Neerdowells (LOGOchrysalis, 2011). He taught himself Arabic to open a cyber café with his favorite Bedouin in the shadow of the Great Pyramids of Giza.
The Inspired Word is one of the country's hottest open mic spoken word poetry/performance series. Produced by longtime journalist and former Village Voice columnist Mike Geffner and hosted by HBO Def Poetry star Gemineye, NYC spoken word legend Nathan P., poet Aimee Herman, and actor/comedian Erica Bradshaw, it happens every week in downtown Manhattan, New York City.
