Some kites have safety measures where if you let go of the handles, another line that's attached to your wrist yanks on the brakelines and hopefully depowers the kite. At those wind speeds the only thing he could've done is prayed... or not used the safety line.

and this was during hurrican Fay. ( tropical storm )
And he could not let go because theres a latch, So wen ur flying threw the air, last thing u think of is, ( Weres The String!? ) ya know. But he was badly hurt.. But hes soon to a full recovery. it was all over the news.. i thought it was hillarius. Welcome To Florida!!
