Anne (Sally Hawkins) fell deeply in love with handsome young naval officer Frederick Wentworth (Rupert Penry-Jones) at the age of nineteen. But with neither fortune nor rank to recommend him, Anne's family were against the match and persuaded her to break off the engagement.

Eight years later, Anne has lived to regret her decision. She never stopped loving Frederick and when he returns from sea having made his fortune and reputation, she can only watch as every eligible young woman in the district falls at his feet.

Can Frederick forgive Anne for listening to her family instead of her heart?

My favorite Austen novel. I adore Wentworth. It's not the best adaptation... but it's still enjoyable.

  • I wish that movie ...

I wish that movie makers would care to read the books that they base their movies on before shooting them. This is terrible! Once again another production have shown that the old badly recorded versions are better in casting and closer to the real story, even though the way of recording is too studio-like. If people wish to see a version which is close Austens original ideas I surgest we try to get your hands on the 1971 version, its not on you tube though :-(

I saw it, it wasn't as good as the 95 version with ciaran hinds, but it's still worth watching. I have to say though that Rupert Penry-Jones did an excellent job here. The writers just ruined the end when he gave her the property ( entailed property)as a wedding present.

Omg! I've also watched the 95 version too and Ciaran Hinds was brilliant, I love him!

I would love to see this version and compare but I guess I can't finish this in one sitting. I would have to break once in awhile. The camera running is making me dizzy!

  • I like both! The ...

I like both! The added scenes here are nice (even if slightly unfaithful) but I'm sorry, I just don't quite like the running. I think both casts are great and the breaking of the third wall in this doesn't bother me; I think it's creative actually. I think the 95 version has more of the Austen subtlety to it and Amanda Root is a spot-on Anne even though I do love Sally Hawkins and Penry-Jones is GORGEOUS (always a plus!). So I can't choose! Sorry! I wish I could but it's easier to be indecisive!
