  • Indeed, I try to ...

Indeed, I try to educate myself as much as I can about all animals, but especially cetaceans. It bothers me when people feed false information to other people about these animals.
As for knowing so much about the show, I've only seen Believe once. I have seen many videos of it as well. I have also seen the orca show at Marineland (Canada) many times and know the behaviours. Knowing them helps a lot when photographing the whales. :)
But yes, they are definitely something I like to learn about.

I've been to all 3 SeaWorlds over a dozen times. They do the same show. This is the Believe show. I just saw it in Orlando in December and San Diego in June.

I was wondering how you know so much about the show. I didn't get to read most of the comments in case you've answered that question. I LOVE SeaWorld and have been to all three. Are killer whales something you like to learn about?

  • They ARE allowed to ...

They ARE allowed to "blob out". They are asked to perform, and they are not forced.

And as for mortality rate, orcas born in the wild also have an extremely high mortality rate, around 40%-half of the calves don't even make it past their first year. SeaWorld Orlando has 7 out of 9 orcas that were BORN in captivity. I'm not saying all captivity is good, obviously their are some disgusting parks out there.

  • bubbly,you say they ...

bubbly, you say they get a day off whenever they like.sure they can choose not to perform but they dont get a day off.A day off is when you get to 'blob out' and do what you want. These creatures are never left alone for a break, they are always asked to perform.Would you call it a day off if your boss rang you and said oh here is todays work, everyone is waiting for you..of course it's your choice. What a joke. These animals are now bred in captivity with horrendous mortality rates.

  • I agree. Not only ...

I agree. Not only would it be wrong to take them away from the only life they know, but we would be prying them away from their human family and whale pod at whatever marinepark they live at. They are a social group of animals and taking them apart and throwing them into the ocean, alone, without any social contact from humans as they have become accustomed to, would be incredibly cruel. Obviously taking them in the first place was done in a very cruel way, but what's done is done.

  • That behaviour is ...

That behaviour is part of the show. It's called an alien. The trainer flicks water into the air and then the orca copies by flinging water into the air with its mouth (watch the video again and you can see the trainer doing that). Just so some people I know, I noticed a few commenters were confused. It really is an awesome behaviour.

  • Just for the record ...

Just for the record, trainers get paid very poorly. You have be dedicated.
Secondly, orcas get a day off whenever they want. If they don't want to perform, they don't. They are still fed and loved the same whether or not they perform.
