Donna is one of the most successful & influential female hitmakers of the rock era with 5 Grammy's and 11 additional nominations. Donna became the first female artist to have four number-one singles in a twelve-month period. Also, Grammy winner for best Rock song "Female" 1980. After Dance music went underground in the 80's, Donna went back to her Rock roots and launched a hopeful but short lived Rock career in the early 1980s. The media poised her as the black Pat Benatar. Donna is no stranger to Rock, In her teens she joined a Psychedelic-Rock-Band called "The Crow",named because Donna was the only black member of the group. At eighteen, Donna Gaines (Summer) left home and school to take up a major supporting role in the hippy Broadway Rock musical, "Hair".
