Fair comment, i wouldnt eat a salmon unless it was fresh caught from a river, fish farmed fish could cause stomach cancer for all we know. Pike generally grow a pound a year (approx) It just seems a shame they dont get the respect they deserve, especially specimens that provide great sport for anglers who spend a lot of money pursuing such fish, if you look at pike records you will see that they show more specimen fish caught years ago when there wasnt so many people knocking them over the head
By niall7777 [Affiliate User] 1209450753 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveFortunately, pike are not a rare fish in many parts of Canada. Here in Saskatchewan there are limits on the number of fish you can take but over all you can come to any lake and find plenty of Pike. I prefer to go north and catch my own fish rather than rely on fish-mongers that may or may not be getting their stuff from a reliable source.

By ndsunshine [Affiliate User] 1209226193 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIf you depend on fish and live in an area where it is common practise to eat every fish that swims then fine, im sure pike are great as they grow big, but the maker of this video should make it clear that a lot of nations protect such fish given their massive appeal to anglers who wish to catch them (AGAIN & AGAIN) It should be made known not to kill pike in waters where fishing is common, ive read some uneducated and ignorant comments like "we all have to eat" -Go to the fish counter you miser!
By niall7777 [Affiliate User] 1209122921 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou are not supposed to kill pike, simple, or other coarse fish, its not the big blue sea where millions of fish live, they live in freshwater lakes and rivers and if you keep killing them then the food chain is affected in a terrible way, in other words there are loads of small pike around and no big pike to eat the small pike, pike are an amazing fish with super senses for hunting, they should be caught, admired and returned to grow bigger, keep killing them and ill fish farm them on red meat!

By itshimkevinkim [Affiliate User] 1205067085 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI think that in an era of political correctness things have gone a bit strange. Comments like "poor fish" are out of touch with reality. Fish are a food source for the majority of the planet. Pretty soon we will start hearing from people about how even vegetables have feelings.
Good video on a tough fish to clean properly...thanks.

Do you have any idea which fillet knife to use.I'm considering to buy a new one, but i'm confused because Wüsthof and alike knives are very expensive. Or should i buy an electric one?
By oakenshield1 [Affiliate User] 1203644804 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWOW! way to kill that pike! surprised me! lol
By begindanny [Affiliate User] 1203255367 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removegreat knife skills, other than the use of fork and electric knife, it's textbook speed fillet.
By cbdoobie [Affiliate User] 1203250870 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAlso, take the skin off too. You do this on the on the narrow side of the fillet, get your knife underneath the meat, then just cut all the way up the fillet. Grab the skin thats already been cut off the meat and pull on it while you do this so it stays tight and then it will scrape along the skin. Now deep fry it with some fries and tartar sauce and you got some goddamn good eating.
By albertaoutdoors [Affiliate User] 1202826671 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAlso you wanna clean the fillets after your done before you fry or freeze, do a good job
'cause they tend to hold onto that fishy smell but if you clean the fillets real good it pays off in the end.
OK Joe Three-Rivers, post your video of how this is done and impress us all! There may be better ways of doing this but so far this is the only one that works consistently for me. I am going to take a shot in the dark here and guess that you've never cleaned your own fish.
