Theres a reason why they didn't have a line in with them and use it...the LT. in the basement told them not too!!!! Sometimes a video doesn't tell the whole story! The south side suburbs might not have the most manpower, but we do know a thing or two about fighting fire.
By djdfire [Affiliate User] 1222830816 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThere were lines on the fire, the crew that came out of the front door was doing a search, you know, trying to find if there were any victims and rescue them. They wouldn't bring a line with them, because their job is to SEARCH, not extinguish, that is what the engine company is doing...the fire went thru the floor, so they had to abondon the search. So I guess every major city in the US does it wrong when they send their Truck Co. or Squad in to search above the fire with out a line?

By wildfire2479 [Affiliate User] 1222654343 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI have a question.. WHO CARES that you have been a firefighter for 19 years? This video was not posted to insult our brothers and sisters, it was posted so we can look at it and try to learn. But,I guess that you have NEVER EVER done anything wrong in 19 years. And EVERY fire you have fought and every call you have ever run has gone absolutely perfect! Search the videos on here. Even FDNY has fires and calls that go bad. Now keep your pointless comments to yourself.
By wrh1333 [Affiliate User] 1222516506 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIf you would take the time to read all of this stuff, you would see that there were 2 lines operating in the basement. The company upstairs was doing a search. Taking out a window above the fire is completely appropriate. The fire had extended further then they thought. I am sure none of you experts ever had to change tactics while fighting a fire.
By ffdeadhead [Affiliate User] 1222463525 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThere ABSOLUTELY should have been a charged hose line in that house. That house was charged. What did he think taking the window out was going to do. Anyone who can read smoke could tell a flashover was imminent. Tell me again ffdeadhead why you wouldn't take a line in with you.

By zion3179 [Affiliate User] 1222452994 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe fire was in the basement. How does taking out a window ABOVE the fire "feed" the fire. I think most of you out here really dont have an understanding of what a flashover really is.
By ffdeadhead [Affiliate User] 1222397155 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI understand this, but searching is most safely done with a CHARGED hoseline in the room. What if you are searching without a charged line and you encounter heavy fire conditions, such as these guys. They couldn't attack because the hoseline was dead. This house could have had alot less damage if the line had ben charged. I want to know who's bright idea it was to attack from the window and cause heat damage throughout the structure. Was anyone inside when the window "attack" was made?
By leatherhead3 [Affiliate User] 1222290210 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveMaybe YOU were trained to search with a charged hoseline. That is not the industry standard nationwide.
By ffdeadhead [Affiliate User] 1222284226 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removedude, your dad does not know what to look for if he doesn't think this was a flashover. This was indeen a small flashover.
By leatherhead3 [Affiliate User] 1222281663 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveLol it looks as if they may need a crash course in firefighting too. I don't see how some people pass academy. If this were one of the guys on my truck, they would get some time off to think about a possible career change.
By leatherhead3 [Affiliate User] 1222281602 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI thought we trained to search with a CHARGED hoseline. No matter what they were doing, they were doing it wrong.
