These images were shot during my first trip to Burma in february 2009. It mainly features places in Rangoon, Mandalay and Bagan. One can also have a glimpse on the red ruby mines in the Mogok region... Though Burma is still a military dictatorship, it is to me a 'must see' in south east asian countries. The difficult access and the lack of comfort during such a trip is easily forgotten when one encounters with Burmese people, who are among the kindest, and most welcoming, I've ever come to meet through all of my journeys around the world. The edges of hard lives can be seen through their eyes, but their attitude always remain cheerful, open and happy with life and new encounters with foreigners. Let us hope that, in the near future, the dictatorship falls, for Myanmar as a huge touristic potential and its people are more than willing to open to the outside world. Lets us also remember that, to this day, political leader and acclaimed Nobel prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi is still placed under house arrest in her Rangoon home by the junta... A.G. • Well, I don't know ...

Well, I don't know really much about this country. The way people live their lifes there looks a bit oldfashioned to me, totally different to the life here in europea. It seems they live in a simpler way, but they also look poor.
I like it how the music fits the images.
