"A Metra train struck a car in northwest suburban Des Plaines this morning, killing one person in the car and halting trains in both directions for about two hours.

The accident occurred at 8:10 a.m. at a crossing near River and Miner Street, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller. Trains were moving again a little after 10 a.m., according to Metra.

The car flipped over and one person inside was killed, authorities said. The car was on its roof in flames when firefighters arrived, Des Plaines Fire Chief Alan Wax said.

Inbound and outbound trains were stopped in the area until just after 10 a.m., according to Metra's Web site.

Several inbound trains and one outbound train were delayed more than an hour and a half, and inbound train No. 638 was delayed about half an hour, according to the site."
