    I agree with jukcoder. The guitar was introduced to Europeans around 850 by Ziryab, an Arabic, Persian court musician of Córdoba, Spain. Furthermore, the modern guitar has roots in the Indian Sitar, and the Turkish Saz. It is the Europeans that adapted this sound from the Oriental cultures, not the other way around.
