Er, no. That's exactly what copyright means. Copyright is an automatic right in countries where the Berne Convention applies (which is pretty much the entire civilised world).

In some countries (noteably the litigation-loving US) you can register the copyright for additional rights covering legal fees and such, but you don't have to.

If you say something's copyright, and it's actually copyrightable, then it is. Whether it's worth copyrighting, of course, is a whole other discussion. (-:
