OP was my piano idol growing up. I managed to meet him after several concerts in London. He was kind and friendly and once he even saved me from an over zealous doorman by acting like he already knew me and we were friends. His death last Christmas hit me hard.

There will never be another Oscar. I've always admired, among many other aspects of his playing, the way he always lands on his "feet", so to speak, after one of his breathtaking runs...around 1:40 or so plus coutless others in this video. How about that 9 foot Bosendorfer...one thunderous instrument!

What I like about Oscar Peterson is that listening to him is not enough. You REALLY want to watch him play too. I couldn't give a toss about watching the rock bands I like. Having them on CD is enough, but this sort of thing just HAS to be seen to be seen to get the full impact. That's why he'll be missed so much.
