Times are hard... cant be wasting mon ey on a fancy battery charger so a friend gave me a book by George Wiseman from Eagle Research. The circuit consists of nothing more than a large capacitor and a rectifier. It would appear to be dangerous if you know what stupid people could do with it ;)
But it charges anything from 1x 100ah 12v battery to my truck cells (48x 2v 500ah) wired at 96volts.
It seems quite fast considering it only has a 3amp fuse on the mains... I only wanted a trickle charger for the 24000ah on the truck to keep them happy during winter.

DIY Capacitive Battery Charger

  • This is a dangerous charger!!

This type of charger is intended for small nicad batteries that are enclosed so the terminals cannot be touched while charging. If someone touches a battery terminal while in contact with ground they can be electrocuted. An isolation transformer should be used ahead of this charger. Better still, get a properly built approved charger.

This charger supplies an approximately constant current which is not the best way to charge a lead-acid battery. You get away with it because the current is small in relation to the battery capacity. Used on a smaller battery, this type of charging will eventually destroy the battery.

Contact the manufacturer of your batteries. They have specification sheets that describe the proper way to charge their batteries. They may even have circuits for chargers.

By the way, your truck battery is rated at 96 volts, 500 Ah (not 24000 Ah).
