This is a video describing how to set up a snap-in security policy in windows xp to block all icmp traffic in and out of the box. Very good thing to do if you want your pc to show a time out when someone pings you. This is a definite watch to anyone in the security field so check it out!

  • Blocking ICMP ping ...

Blocking ICMP ping for example can be done in one of the following ways. Blocking all inbound icmp request traffic or blocking all outbound icmp reply traffic. Everything else wont work if u wanna ping but prevent others from ping u. I fail to see where you did that in your security policy, anyway i might have missed it. Besides.. why would someone do that through windows when hes behind a router like you are.. Pure lameness Just setup some acl or rules in your router and your done

  • You are retarded. ...

You are retarded. That isnt how ICMP works, The requester doesnt need to respond to an outgoing ICMP request. Maybe you are thinking of the TCP/IP 3 way handshake which requires the requester to verify it's request by syn and ack packets.

  • Pinging works by ...

Pinging works by sending an ICMP packet and then receiving an ICMP traffic. If you block either of them, pinging will not work and since you can't block specific ICMP packets with ipsec, this will not work.

  • So you're saying ...

So you're saying that by blocking ICMP traffic from My IP Address to My IP Address (but typed in), will block others from pinging me while I can still ping others? That's the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
