A short video summarizing some of the most important characteristics of students today - how they learn, what they need to learn, their goals, hopes, dreams, what their lives will be like, and what kinds of changes they will experience in their lifetime. Created by Michael Wesch in collaboration with 200 students at Kansas State University.

  • I think it should ...

I think it should be compulsory for kids before college /uni to spend a few months or so in a third world country doing some sort of service/charity work.
Not for the poor in those countries , but for themselves. After seeing, living feeling tasting etc what many of the world lives day by day , you can never truely feel that sorry for yourself again. And that is one of the greatest blessings there is.How do i know ?
Seeing the change in myself. You come back feeling sooooo lucky and motivated.

  • Why the sad, ...

Why the sad, poignant music? Most of those stats just show how lazy these students are! If you're paying a fortune for your education, read your books and do some work - Don't be idle and then hold up a pathetic card saying 'I buy $100 textbooks I never open' with a long face, as if it's not your fault! Don't sit there in lectures playing on facebook and then behave as if there's some deep flaw in the education system. The flaw is YOU.

  • I really don't get ...

    I really don't get the American Uni/College/IT's

In Ireland if you leave secondary school (highscool) and attend college in the following two years, the entire course is paid for - even a doctorate. Most students are also applicable for scholarships.

I don't understand how one of the major Superpower countries charges their future doctors to eventually save lives.

Im not out to diss your scheme I'm just making my opinion heard.

  • You're making a lot ...

You're making a lot of assumptions about me, bikersrule07. I didn't say only university students can think that way; I just said uni is good for teaching kids that. It isn't ALL bullshit. And no I don't go to a good school, have a good job or rich parents! I tried to put myself thru uni but had to quit cos I couldn't afford it. I'm now 39 & have a lot of regrets. My life is no picnic, mate, but I don't blame anyone else. And btw I admire self-starters (like my dad) a LOT. Is that pompous of me?!

  • I have difficulty ...

I have difficulty connecting with this message. I see students saying they spend 8 - 10 hours/day playing rather than working/learning. The concern that the work isn't 'relevant' might be typical of a generation who have had their lives, their trinkets & beads and their self-esteem handed to them on silver platters. I wonder what form of work would seem relevant to this age-group? Or have we as parents/teachers so completely abdicated our responsibilities that this is the unavoidable outcome?

Nice job. I as a student myself relate to the things said in the video... I see that problems here where I come from are the same problems you can encounter everywhere... as well as in the US.
