Erich Alfred "Bubi" Hartmann (April 19, 1922 - September 20, 1993), also nicknamed "The Blond Knight Of Germany" by friends and "The Black Devil" by his enemies, is the most successful fighter ace in the history of aerial combat. He scored 352 aerial victories (of which 345 were flown by the Soviet Air Force, and 260 of which were fighters) in 1,404 combat missions and engaging in aerial combat 825 times while serving with the Luftwaffe in World War II. Hartmann was forced to crash land his damaged fighter 14 times. This was due to damage received from parts of enemy aircraft he had just shot down, or mechanical failure. Hartmann was never shot down or forced to land due to enemy fire.

  • As u pointed out, ...

As u pointed out, this is BF 109 not MF109, the late messerschmitts were MF but 109 was designed in the early years of the war when there were BF abbrevation before the number..

Thanks for a great video and account of Erich Hartmann. He was definitely a true "ace". Thank you for saluting a military hero even if he was German.

  • I aprechiate your ...

I aprechiate your ranking, but mines are Rommel (due to his brilliant way of planing and timing); Guderian (because he inventent the tank combat taktik that is still in use and was an excellent commander on the eastern front) and Hans Ulrich Rudel(because his motto: youre only lost if you give up on yourself. And because he was just an awsome pilot and crashed his stuka several times to prevent his comrades from being imprisoned.

  • In my opinion ...

In my opinion Rommel was overrated, Priller was a fantastic pilot indeed, Hartmann was a bit overrated as well. I prefer the Nachtjaeger aces, Helmut Lent and Heinz Wolfgang Schnaufer.

he was very young, age 22 promoted to a captain and in the last days of the ww2 to a major.for me ,he was the best fighter in ww2.he shoot down 7 mustangs over romania with his me 109.normaly impossible.remember,in the last days of the ww2 it was easy, to shoot down a german aircraft.the reasons? not the airplan but unversed pilots.
