Hello YouTube(ers)! This is maybe one of the first computer-games which uses 3D-graphics (complete with real-time shadows) ever made! The games name is "Virus" and it was made by the (maybe) best programmer ever: David Braben!
(David Braben is known for the game "Elite" released 1984 for the computers "BBC micro" and Acorn Electron computers.)
For those who wonders why the graphics are so strange, it's just because it's an old game.
If You are interested, there's a part 2 of this gameplay:

*UPDATE*: Renamed this video a little bit (putting the name "Zarch" on the title)...
I have on pc.
there is a web page where you can download it
Indeed, I don't even know if I have ever completed the first wave at all :P
By Banzeken [Affiliate User] 1209295717 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removefun game, but hard as hell!
By LesaneRecords [Affiliate User] 1208689345 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeit looks as much fun as spreading grass seed on the lawn
By whatsthatcar [Affiliate User] 1206705595 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDamn; played this on the ST and Amiga for days at a time lol! Old skool rulez! Hmmm, this and Stunt Car Racer!
By custardypants [Affiliate User] 1204295326 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveOh yeah, Zarch is the earlier version of this game! I think the difference between Zarch and Virus was that Virus is a port of Zarch, but to the other home computers and not only the Acorn Archimedes. The graphics are also changed between both games!
I'm not 100% sure, but I think I'm saying a bit of the truth.
Thanks for all the comments folks ;)
Zarch!
By endofthelinejoel [Affiliate User] 1202636728 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI always thought it was called lander on the old acorns, might be wrong though! It was definately fun though!
By adamegg55 [Affiliate User] 1202063164 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt's one of the funniest experiences you can possibly have in front of a computer, I think :)
By Banzeken [Affiliate User] 1201344261 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI got much enjoyment out of flying as high as possible then plummeting into the floor and smashing into lots of tiny pieces
By howdydoodly [Affiliate User] 1200838904 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHome of the Underdogs, I guess that's where I found it ;)
But it's impossible to play without DosBox, so I recommend you to get it if you don't got it :P
it's abadonware? where can i download it?
By Federicoscala [Affiliate User] 1197449247 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYepp, that's right, it's the Pc-version :P
Indeed, the controls are kinda complicated, but that's ok, 'cause we've got a great game here, don't we?
...anyway, thanks for your comment ;)
Have a snowy and fine winter dudes...
I guess that's the PC version. I've got a positively ancient Archimedes A540 with Zarch (the original name), there is certainly more shading on the Arc version. Perhaps it was too taxing for the PCs of the era? It's a hard game to play, but once you're over the hilariously twitchy control system it becomes a kind of "3D Defender" The sequel, V2000 was too choppy to play on a PS1, must have a go with the PC though.

By chootastic [Affiliate User] 1192681980 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThat's cool! I've never tried the acorn-computers, but...wow, You've played on acorn :)
Peace...
I used to spend hours playing this in school on the acorn we used to have in the corner
By chootastic [Affiliate User] 1192458596 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI'm using DosBox to run this game. I think You might be able to get it on the internet (just like i did) if You search carefully ;)
Yeah, Zarch was the first version of this game, that's true, but i haven't tried the emulators You mentioned.
Thanks for Your comment man :D
Have a wonderful day...
what system is this running a PC using an Amiga emulator ? Or is it a Archimedes emulator. Acorn Archimedes had Zarch a version of this by Braben before this version
By dreamcastII [Affiliate User] 1189225850 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveOh yes, Elite is one outstanding game for it's time! The graphics is just superb and gameplay with no end, it just keeps going and going and...
Well, if Virus isn't the first 3D computer-game, then it's definitly(or whatever it's spelled) the first 3D-game using realtime-shadows and (kinda) soft animations :P
Thanks for Your comment...
Virus was very impressive for it's time but you can't really call it one of the first 3D games - what about Elite?!
By fuzzface100 [Affiliate User] 1187529844 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYeah, it's quite impressing indeed :P
If Ya think about many other new games, this is something extraordinary...
