I agree, this is so much more erotic, sensuous and truly sexy than most of the sex scenes we get in films set in the present, most of which seem to leave out all the subtlety, gentleness and love in favor of focussing on explicit (and often way to graphic and empty in my view) acts. This scene is really beautiful!

Amen! Well put Arwenistar, I feel the same way. And I am close in age to Alan Rickman, yet still I seem to revert to obsessed-teenaged-fangirlism whenever I watch him in movies, this one in particular.

Movies like this and Pride and Prejudice, the ones set in the past, are always so much more loving. Since there is little physical contact, it's all feelings~. I love it.
