  • Beethoven was a ...

Beethoven was a selfish composer and player. Mozart was a selfish composer and player.
I'm pointing out that just because you're a selfish player doesn't mean you aren't brilliant. People go to watch HIM at his concerts, not the orchestra.

  • A lot of the ...

A lot of the brilliant classical composers were able to write pieces with featured instruments that were quite technical yet very involved in the surrounding music. A lot of those same composers were able to write pieces that didn't survive on the virtuosity of a single player. Malmsteen's songs survive only because he plays fast. Virtually nothing else is even remotely interesting to listen to or interestingly written in his songs (i.e. Orchestral parts, bass, drums, keyboard).

  • I wouldn't say he's ...

I wouldn't say he's a brilliant musician. He has an extremely accomplished technique and theoretical knowledge but I don't think that automatically goes hand-in-hand with brilliance. So many Malmsteen fans just seem like classical name-droppers and, congruently, have a fairly limited knowledge and understanding of classical music and yet use it as a justification for calling him "brilliant".

  • thats what i mean. ...

thats what i mean. hes a brilliant musician, but while hes playing live he could suddenly decide to go completely out of tempo with the rythm section, and wouldnt care because to him, they dont really matter.

  • Um thats because he ...

Um thats because he composed the music and the orchestra didn't, therefore, its HIS music so the orchestra is going to play HIS music. This has nothing to do with harmony so Im not really sure what you are getting at. "His music is about himself"? Well, yeah thats the way its supposed to be. He is a cocky guy though.

  • yes, but i mean ...

yes, but i mean that he didnt play to go along with the ORCHESTRA, he composed the orchestra to go along with HIM. the orchestra is an unimportant part of this performance. malmsteen is a very good, but very selfish player. his music is about himself, not anything to do with a rythm section

not exactly. the orchestra was there, and then he played whatever he felt like on top of them. he didnt play WITH them.

  • No, I don't think ...

No, I don't think Malmsteen knows how to play musically with a Rhythm section. I've never seen him do it. He only thinks about himself when he plays and that's what makes his music as terrible as it is. He just has a speed gimmick and throws in other players into the mix for the novelty of it.

  • If I was ...

If I was Malmsteen's rhythm section I'd be bored to tears. It's just a vamp for 6 minutes. It F**king S**ks ! In most of his songs his playing barely even acknowledges that he has a rhythm section. The guy is a gimick and a joke.

Well, it seems you overstudied music too much and not common sense. It's very simple, you don't like it then just don't listen to it. I don't know what kind of a person comments like 3 or 4 times on a video of someone he doesn't like..

  • You're absolutely ...

You're absolutely right concerning the dominant emotions of today's society: rage. That seems to be the foundation of metal, and why so many people can tap into it. Our world is full of angry people.

To say that Malmsteen writes exclusively angry music however, is just as stupid as it is uninformed. This furious guitar work constitues for a large part of his repertoire, but you've yet to hear Amberdawn, Forever One, Guardian Angel, Blue, Miracle of Life, Brothers, Dreaming, Like an Angel..

  • Classical music is ...

Classical music is mostly expressed by explicit phrasing, like singing or reciting. Too many arpeggios makes no sense as far as any articulate or serious expression, unless we're talking about rage, which is exactly what most musicians express today, boredom and rage.
People that lived 200 years ago were not as oppressed as we are today, hardly in touch with nature and real knowledge, saturated with ignorant technological education, and fear of dying, musicians like Ingwie mostly deal with rage.
