kinito....composite still doesn't last as long as amalgam. physically it just isn't possible and will never be possible..why? because amalgam is composed of metals such as zinc, silver, tin, while composite is composed of silica, like glass... metal vs. glass.... metal wins.n cassie, they pile on a bunch because when you condense hard, it pushes the mercury layer to the top...and you want to carve off the rich mercury layer in order that there is less mercury in the filling itself.

Yes, it doesn't look so good compared to composites, but they will last a very long time. (Mine have lasted for over thirty years.) Composites look nice, yes, but they cost more and last half as long. If you want longevity, amalgams are the way to go.
