From treasures of black cinema hosted by richard roundtree. Get it on dvd at amazon.com. Our cinematic endeavors go way back and this film from 1940 is a great example of what they called RACE films. These OG MACKS were Clean and Nice with the hands too. This was a time when we were intelligent enough to separate film fantasy and fiction from real life. A great film for a lazy summer afternoon. look out sorpranos, go run and hide scareface. Don Corleone better be glad he did not have to deal with these brothers. ENJOY!!!!

  • This is a treasure. ...

This is a treasure. I have read about these films some 30 years ago and so glad that they have been discovered. At the time it was thought they had been lost to history, but Thank God they have been found!! because a generation can see these Race films and the players many of whom never received any recognition in their day and only in the last 20 years or so with the Oscar Micheaux film awards in the SF Bay Area were they and these given recognition.

  • Thanks for you ...

    Thanks for you comment.
These films were not made by hollywood. They were made distributed by and targeted to black audiences.
It was an all black thing.
As far as the lead(he's black you know) calling that guy a monkey, today it would be Nigga, so some things never change and some things remain the same.

  • More of us need to ...

More of us need to see this despite its content. It shows we also were in part of the great films back in the day. It also shows of how Hollywood did not have respect for blacks by one of the men calling the black gansters monkeys. The Little Rascals were no different when you see the episodes of the Rascala in their original format.
