Dan Rather Reports - Boeing 787 Composite Concerns (1 of 4)

All very true, this report is just a bunch of fear mongering as usual by the media.

it's not plastic, thats what they want you to think, this video is probably paid for by a rival of boeing. composite is a blend of two materials, it similar to an alloy

After posting this video I came to the conclusion that Boeing engineers would not put profits over safety. The design team, mechanics, and executives at the company have children also and I highly doubt they would put their kids on an aircraft if composite structures are really this fragile. The entire tailplane of the 777 is made of composite as well and no serious issues have developed in the 14 years it has been flying. Boeing really needs to get this plane off the ground and soon.

i'm getting the feeling that this video was paid for by a rival of boeings........some of the reasons against composites seem alarmist....and unnecessary.....plus they manged to get dan rather involved to get some credability to it.

Your corporate overthrown government lets many markets experiment with Americans all the time. It is much less expensive for the corporations if they don't force themselves to test products.

not to mention there is no way to do large scale NDI on a composit fuselage so you could have delamiation and you wouldn't even know unless you tap tested the hole thing or something

Unless they make these "plastic" airplanes just as safe as the aluminum ones we should boycott them. All they care about is money and profit. No one seems to care about what happens when these planes crash, or the fact that more people will die due to the planes' brittle structure and the toxic fumes they emit when they burn. I think this project and human experiment is a total disgrace.

The only thing what can save the "dream"liner is an irréprochable FCS. I can't understand how a such big figure of aviation could make such mistake...

Rushing this technology into the sky? Oh sh*t! Look up the history of composites in aircraft! For heaven's sake, google for "Burt Rutan". Composite materials have used in aircraft for the last 20 years! NON-metal (other than wood and silk) materials were first used over 30 years ago! Sh*t, or did I already say that?

we must live with constant paranoia if we want to believe everything the media deals us, but dilemma here is if this plane crashes, your screwed, but the plane shouldn't crash in the first place...

Should we be worried??
