Earth, air, metal and water make light. This earth battery produces 12V and was an experiment on increasing the amps with only a serial series and strong electrolyte. Next step is to make smaller and find the right parallel/serial series to produce grunt.

    240V ac pulsing. What do you mean?

    The only way to increase amps enough for usable power is to increase plate size an use series, and use a good electrolyte. I have also tried running through a DC/DC converter. I think these step up devices convert to AC then back to DC. Without enough existing current it gets reduced.

    Run something? DC will run LED, calculators, clocks, remotes etc.

    nice job! I mad some in 1 gal jugs to make as many as i could and get about 18 volts dc,
    now can you tell me why i also get 240 volts ac pulsing, i'm going to try and put some capacitors to see what i can do with it. I tryed to use it to charge a battery but no sukses yet. any good ideas how to get more power to actualy run something?

  • Yes. Plate size ...

    Yes. Plate size allows more current flow. I have some old car battery cases but not enough copper to fill them out right now.

    I saw a guy on Youtube make a water battery. He increased the amperage by increasing the surface area of the leads. Try adding the vinegar AND try making the copper and zinc leads bigger.

  • Yes, thats the ...

    Yes, thats the reason i am using Hcl. Higher redox rate = higher amperage. My goal was not longevity but brightness. The electrodes being eaten isn't the problem ... its the rate of reaction which builds up the chlorides quite fast. Once built up the reaction slows to a stop, and the electrodes need cleaning. The bad part is .... creating the chlorides.

    4Zn + 6HCl --> 2Zn2Cl3 + 3H2

    2Cu + HCl --> CuCl2 + H2

    Let me know how your series goes. Would like to see it.

  • Nice work but the ...

    Nice work but the spirits of salts is actually hydrocloric acid which will even eat stainless steel so it is a poor choice for an electrolite. I just picked up 6 trays to try them attached in a series,,, have you tried that ? thanks. john
