A newborn, two-headed Olive Ridley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) hatched from a natural nest in Ostional Beach in Costa Rica in November 2005. The turtle was kept for a few days under observation and was then released in good health into the Pacific ocean. The prospects of survival are unknown - if she is a female and survives the hazards of a life at sea with natural predators and indiscriminate nets and hooks, she may return to Ostional to nest in some 15 to 20 years.
