This is the full clip of the Glenn Miller band with Tex Beneke and one of the greatest dance routines ever in movies by the Nicholas Brothers. From the 1942 movie "Orchestra Wives"
They filmed the Nicholas brothers separately so they could remove their segment when they showed the movie the segregationist south. Sad really.

Boy can the nicholas brothers move
They are cuties
Thanks! I will! Did Hermes Pan have anything to do with them?

I originally saw this clip in my AP History class, and the first thing my teacher told us was that the Nicholas Brothers had to leave directly after performing. Because of the segregation laws, they could perform there, but God forbid they think about eating there.

They are fantastic. Fred Astaire said they were
the greatest athletic dancers of the 20th century. They are the best I've ever seen.
Check them out on "Chattanooga Choo Choo," when they are performing with Dorothy Dandridge(another incredible talent) from Glenn Miller's 1941 movie "Sun Valley Serenade". This is a double number with no transition
from Benneke and Marion Hutton and the Modernaires into a reprise of the song
by the black artists.
By the way, notice how Tex Beneke teases actor
César Romero by trying to knock his music sheets from the piano.....César was the ilegitimate grandson of Cuba's equivalent to George Washington....( José Martí ).....He always told people this fact proudly....César Romero was born in New York City....
Sierra Cuban, Miami, Florida.....
Thank you Tex Beneke for your voice....This song would not have been the same without it....
You lived a long life, ( 1914-2000 ) and you blessed us all....My parents heard your voice in Cuba in the 1940's, and we still hear it all over the world today....Sierra Cuban, Miami, Florida
Who are those tow outta-this-world black singers / dancers?

By ggrtr [Affiliate User] 1210701586 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveMet Tex Beneke at Wolf Trap in the late 1980's. Here I was a long-haired rocker, surrounded by older people looking at me strangely, yet he was very very kind. Signed an album and my guitar body. When we were posing for a picture with my Mom, he said, "Why don't we pose this rose between us two thorns?" Very 1940's-ish cool talk coming from Tex - a thrill I will never forget!

"Let's keep our Gal in Kalamazoo!"
This video is incredibly nostalgic if you're from Kalamazoo like me.

Big Band was great, a nightclub like this could really come back.
The band members who were dropped for actors were not paid by Glenn as they were "off the band" as far as he was concerned during the making of the movie!! Tough economics of the Big Band era I guess.
Doesn't Marion Hutton look cute! She and many of the band ultimately met early ends - courtesy of the band's sponsor "Chesterfield" who supplied them with all the smokes they wanted......
