  • Many ways to do it

Dear Sir, thanks for the schooling on setting a jig. Two things here. What you show is marvelous and the best way. There is also another way, especially if you are sure it has your jig. If while moving the jig you feel a head shake, set it. It could be that for about a couple os seconds the bass has already had the bait without you even having a clue, si I immediately set the hook. So true in tournament fishing. But I agree the patient way to learn and fish it is your way. My way just comes from experience.

Yea, I fish jigs in just about any cover. The key is that the cover is thick on top and a bit more open underneath. The bass will use the heavy matts and grass for shade and ambush points.

Yea that makes sense. just went out to some of the lakes and ponds around my house and caught well over 10 bass in about 3 hours, and one was just missing 5 and a half lbs.

they say that they tend to get more "birds nests" while casting, but i dont have this problem

I usually give the fish about 3 seconds before setting the hook. I will try to post some footage of a bass taking a jig in a fish tank. You can see how the fish picks up the jig. Many times the fish just grabbed the trailer. If you were to instantly set the hook you would miss the fish

Never had a problem using braided line on baitcasters. I usually have 6-7 rods/reels rigged with 20-30lb PowerPro. What kind of problems are your friends having?

  • Very nice video, ...

Very nice video, and informative, thanks for posting.

I have a couple questions, though. Do you usually wait about 5 seconds when you first feel that bass hit the jig to set the hook?

Also, do you ever have any problems using braided line with baitcasters? For some reason, I have a few friends who seem to have problems with braid while baitcasting, so I just stick to my Proline.

    Thanks.

cool video and thanks for all the tips. jigs prove to catch the big ones for me. One of the best trailers ive discovered is a berkley power bait craw fish with black back n orange/copper belly. Its the most realistic looking one ive found. I cut off about an inch of the tail n slap it on. Give it a shot.
