When MJ said his injured knee was feeling 'not horrible' during this grandfatherly phase (which was not often), he was dropping 40+ with ease. Here he is getting 41 just after hitting 40 against Cleveland at age 38 and a half. I assume that Dan Majerle brought out the inspiration in Father MJ due to memories of the 1993 Finals and unfortunately, The Young Matrix got in the way and took some abuse in the process. Hitting the zone and 17 shots, MJ notched 41pts on 17 buckets at 57% without even taking a trey and only needing 7 free throws. This was MJ's zone alone and even at this age, MJ's will, creativity and ability to improvise and stack the highlight reel were miles above the young'uns.

  • I want to see KB ...

I want to see KB retires for 1 1/2 year, come back at 32 and lead his team to 3 more championships and earn 3 more scoring titles, 2 AS MVPs, 2 NBA MVPs, and 3 Finals MVPs, lead his team to 72 Ws, avg. 1 dunk per game at age 34-35, shoot 49%, retire again, come back at age 38, score 51 and 40+ back to back, chase a much younger player and pin the ball across the board to save the game while having his knee drained beforehand. KB is great, I love his competitiveness but stop comparing him to MJ.

  • MJ was able to ...

MJ was able to raise his game at will and in his prime, his team rarely ever blown away because he was able to keep them in the game even if he has an off night. Look at foremily23 post on game 4 of 97 plyff agnst Miami. He had one of the worst shooting night in his career 'coz he played 64 holes the day before.lol.but he was able to score 20 points in the 4th to almost bring the team back to victory and he was 34 at that time. Haven't seen any 34 year old with more energy in the 4th than MJ.

  • Hoops, can't agree ...

Hoops, can't agree with you more. You're 200% on the money. KB fans need to realize that one stat doesn't mean anything. MJ's career shooting % is just under 50%. KB hasn't shot 47% or better throughout his 10+ years in the league. LeBron, DWade had only 2 seasons where they shot under 47% and they face tough defense every night. I agree with Bill Walton when he said that Kobe is a volume shooter.

  • For example, Lebron ...

For example, Lebron is the only player ever to score over 40 in his first playoff game. That's great of course, but really, it means nothing obviously other than that he did something no one ever did on one given day.

One day, there will be the first player to score 42 points in his first playoff game and you can go on and on.

  • There's always a ' ...

There's always a 'mini-stats' for everything and obviously, no one can have them all. There are numbers for such things as 'only player to have scored 45 points and 10 rebs in 2 straight games, only player to have 35 points and 15 rebounds in two straight games etc." These are infinite of course so KB has a few. Lebron has a bunch and MJ has too many for anyone. KB fans usually take one and run with it like it's the world when in fact, these things are happening all the time.

  • Kobe scored 81, ...

Kobe scored 81, David Robinson scored 73, Wilt scored 100 but scoring bunch of points doesn't mean he's a better player. Tracy Murray a bench player for most of his career scored over 50 once in his career and even Tony Delk scored over 50! Pippen never scored 50 but were Tracy Murray and Delk better than him? Scoring bunch of points can be done but it doesn't mean anything. Yes, the Wiz didn't make the playoffs but the guy was 38 and 40 when he retired playing with bad knees.

  • Where did you get ...

Where did you get that stat that he's the
'first player ever to score 30pts in 5 strait gms with 6 rebs.6assists.. in the playoffs'?
I followed MJ throughout most of his career and Kobe from 96 to present since I live in SoCal and have access to all Laker games via cable or local TV and as good as Kobe is, he's no where near MJ.

Kobebest you don't need to bash jordan and I'm sorry to say that being retired for three years is not as easy as if he never retired. I would change your name unless you like what kobe has done in this years finals. Kobe is just a weak comparison and with each passing year he's not even that.
