After the final defeat of the Japanese empire in 1945 the Korean Peninsula was jointly occupied by the United States, in ther south, and the Soviet Union in the north.

While the korean peninsula was supposed to be unified, the soviets propped up a communist regime in the north under the leadership of general Kim Il Sung, the Democratic people's Republic of Korea.

In the meantime the USA sponsored the creation of a pro-west Republic of Korea, led by President Singman Rhee in the south.

In June 1950 the DPRK launched a surprise invasion of South Korea and the korean War was on.

Lasting until the cease-fire of July 1953, it pitted the communist alliance of China and North Korea against the forces of the United Nations.

    if general macarthur would have been able to finish his mission ,the UN would of had total victory .instead they sacked him.wrong move by are president. now you have the north korea as we know it now.

    chinese join in Korean War just because we dont want to nearby USA's ally and we stop Korean War because we dont want to make a powerful country beside China, one Soviet Union is enough. by the way that's the same reason that we help Vietnam, as a result I thinks now communist should help Pakistan or Afghanistan. if USA control any Asian country, they gona kill chinese and separate china!

    north korea is just doomed. the people thing kim ill is god. north korea only beats south korea in manpower. most of their miltiary is undertrained. the south korean navy is the 8th largest in the world. north korea has 3 missile boats and thats it. the south korean air force would wipe out all of the north korean airfields and military bases. they should just unite again
