    no there needs to be a sound absorbing material lining the inside of the compensator for a real silencer effect. some of the compensators that are attached to air pistols allow for increased muzzle velocity because they add length to the barrel. the built in "noise dampener" on the end of my gamo whisper's barrel has 3 small holes cut out of each side of it, which reveals a blue material that insulates and absorbs the noise coming from the muzzle when a shot is fired.
