The scene which was hidden from the American viewers for a decade. (It was added back in for some of the versions released after 2004.)
Besson's original movie idea was more violent, and the relation between Léon and Mathilda showed much less ambiguities in the first version of the script. However, Natalie Portman's parents did not let their daughter to play that part, so the director had to rewrite the script.

In my opinion(and we all can see that watching the movie) Mathilda just fall in love with Leon. It's normal thing for girls in her age. The second thing is that Leon at last realizes that he loves her too(very pure kind of love)Of course he didn't let her come to much close to him cause she was too young. I think if she would be older, there could be something serious between them.

I say BS. Matilda HATES her family, except her brother. She's only 12 on the outside, mentally and emotionally she is beyond her years because of her life. Its far too easy to dismiss her feelings as a 'crush' given her age and spawned by the circumstances, but we would readily accept it as a great love story if it was an older girl falling for Leon.
She was willing to die with him rather than save herself.
"No need to dig too deep to figure the film's angle throughout this story-"bad-boys corrupts good-girls!! "
You need to dig deep. Its about corruption of all of us. And salvation/self-sacrifice.
Read my comments on this thread for my analysis. Leon killed himself.

which I didn't catch when I first watched this movie - and I think A LOT of people don't realize.
Leon made the ultimate sacrifice for love, and that love was complete and total.
He didn't do it to wash himself clean of the guilt of allowing her into his world. When he is walking toward the light he just let go - he saw how to get 'close as possible' to his target. Remember?

It is my position that Matilda is simple been forced beyond her years, and her behavior is natural, correct, righteous and sincere.
I also think Leon has corresponding desires, but doesn't action on them only PARTIALLY for the reason he gave.
His love is more greater and wise because he knows they must separate for her own good (life of crime). But how to do that without destroying her? How to do that AND RESCUE her from the evil ones?
That is why Leon KILLED HIMSELF at the end, (cont)
Ok- that was a little harsh. The types of comments here got me riled up.
But doesn't your assertion imply that a significant minority of men wouldn't be able to resist the temptation depicted in the movie?
A lot of comments are made about how 'its only fatherly love' here. I don't agree, but you seem to since your reply is affirming the 'yes you are sickos' comment.
In that case, every father is a noble man for resisting inherent base desires OR matilda is a little hussy. (cont)
I see a girl who needs love, but only has magazines and other girlfriends to go by. She's never had a father figure, and all the different kinds of love are mixed up in her head. This film (without the censorship) is not about a man corrupting a woman. It's about a mature-minded young-bodied girl trying to seduce a broken man. She can feel in her bones now much he needs her but BECAUSE he is broken, he can't do it. Had Matilda been of legal age, Leon still couldn't love her. That's the message.
By ZachsMind [Affiliate User] 1225564480 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhen I first saw this film it made no freakin' sense and by the end I was mad at the screenwriter because it appeared he couldn't seem to decide how to show the relationship between Leon & Matilda. Now I see he DID decide, but other forces chose to decide FOR him that he couldn't tell the story properly.
This isn't about bad boys corrupting good girls. Had it not been for censorship, this film could have delved far deeper into the human psyche.
When censorship reigns, everyone loses.
Dude, what's your problem? Im not trying to defame men, especially when I am one! What I was getting at was that so many ignorant people (*cough*) would misunderstand certain scenes in this film, linking it to pedophilia. The subject of child sexuality is a rather risque subject in the Western Hemisphere and most don't react well when in it's in the movie theater. Your just a keyboard-warrior trying to pick a fight and sound cool by quoting "Men at Work",try that one at the water cooler instead.
