Haiti may be one of the poorest countries in the world, but it's also home to some very wealthy communities. It's a situation that's creating a significant divide between the haves and the have-nots. Al Jazeera's Teresa Bo reports from the capital Port au Prince on the huge disparity between rich and poor.

  • I will see this on ...

I will see this on behalf of Haiti and only in Haiti everybody own there own land, if Haiti is the poorest of all, don't be supprised that a poor Haitian own 20 acres of land, their own Ranch, our assets worth billions compare to your market, we don't have line of credits, we use CASH money, we pay cash for what we buy, we don't owe credit cards, loans and mortgages, we own our own houses, we pay cash for everything we buy, we're not debtors and borrowers, we're Independent (1804)

  • I'm leaving for ...

I'm leaving for Haiti a week from today. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Their norm is to eat every other day. The price of rice has risen from $35/100lbs of rice in April to over $100/100lbs of rice today. I believe the only countries poorer than Haiti are Dafur and Somalia. They have fished out the waters and farmed out the land. When you buy Haitian meds you don't know if they are valid or powdered sugar. melandej...go do some research.

  • For your ...

For your information we are a 14+ trillion a year economy. Our debt load is 9 trillion + national debt and about 6-7 Trillion public debts. Being poor means a lack of resources or the ability to get those resources.

  • Why should I learn ...

Why should I learn French? This video is in English, and the conversation started in English. What does French have to do with anything here? If you are tired of speaking English then there is no point in responding.

Lastly, I at no point insulted you (unless you consider a conversation an insult), so I would prefer if you keep your insults to yourself. Have a good day.

  • Haiti is on an ...

Haiti is on an island but not an island itself. an island is a piece of land surrounded by water as you said, but Haiti (the country) is only surrounded by water on three sides. The fourth side is land (a border with the Dominican republic).

Debt does not equal poverty. There are no hunger riots in the US of people trying to overthrow the government (like in Haiti).
Haiti has the largest percent of it's population in poverty, and many of its people are starving. I would define that as poverty.

  • I have to put you ...

I have to put you in your place, the Law says: Only a citizen can judge another citizen. In Haiti we nearly 9millions people compare to other countries in America with 300millions and so on, 9millions lost their jobs and owe more $10 trillions in debt, find out how will pay it back before you call us poor, we will never owe that much, I'm sure more than 5millions and have jobs and their own businesses, and next time go learn some French, I'm tired of speaking English, Merde!

  • About 50 years ago, ...

About 50 years ago, our currency was $=$, never heard Haiti was poor even they had poor people like everywhere, an Island is a piece of land surrounded with water, Haiti Repubilc and Dominican Republic share the same piece of land. I know enough to understand that America is a continent, not a country, so you are a moron, not us.

  • Haiti is NOT an ...

Haiti is NOT an island. It is a country that occupies half an island. The other half is the Dominican Republic (a country not nearly as poor as Haiti). And yes there are poor people everywhere, but Haiti has ALOT more poor people in their population that anywhere else in its hemisphere (80%, wow...).
