'80s Anti-Drug Commercial - When I Grow Up

Better this than those upbeat bands who used to come to school and try to entertain kids into not doing drugs, thats an even bigger waste of time and money. They don't work either, after those I felt like doing drugs just to shut them up!

These commercials are not effective in any way. Drug use has not really been on much of a decline due to spending millions on retarded ads or lying to children in programs such as DARE.

How about honestly educating them about drugs instead of using scare tactics?

THIS is what they need today. These commercials scared the crap out of us when we were kids, and I know I never took up drinking or smoking.

Now everything glamorizes drugs. You need to put the fear of god into kids to keep them drug-free.

This PSA is what kept me from doing drugs. Sometimes they work.

I'm still looking for the PDFA commercial where this teen girl whose face keeps getting disfigured while a creepy version of "Happy Birthday" is being sung in the background, then a sheet is thrown over her head.

Yep, this was the original full 30 second version of it. I guess as more commercials were added, they had to cut them back to solely the 10 second versions.

i think they based that end part in the music from the Friday The 13th score. It has the same kind of "ki, ki, ki, ki, ma, ma, ma, ma" rhythm.

This commercial used to scare the s*** out of me as a child. Still does, especially the nurse part.

That was amazing acting on her part though, and to top it of, the slow-mo adds effect. I vaguely remembered the scene, but it's all coming back to me regarding how much it scared me as a child.

I NEVER saw this commercial in my childhood. I saw the ballerina, I saw the track star (both of which are on YouTube thanks to macrosunshine), thank God I never saw the nurse as a kid. The music building up at the end gives me chills.
