Fighting is part of hockey. Hard checks are natural. Hockey is a continuous sport, NFL does one play, rests, then plays another. While both are brutal, i would say NHL is most definately more brutal. It is part of what makes hockey great.

i would say hockey is the way to go because it is a faster game and ice is alot harder then grass.you can fight in hockey. you never hear about the nfl having 1 on 1 fights.

simplesimon3uk: i, growing up in north america have seen the nfl and nhl my whole life, and have had much less exposure to rugby, it is very hardcore, but as for your suggestion that the nfl scrap equipment, i dont want to say that american football has harder hitting than rugby, but the hitting is very different. it seems to me that the setup of football entails more potential fatally injuring hits (not that rugby lacks this)
thus I.M.H.O. football needs equipment...but still respecting rugby
